Palma Soleada – Outdoor Entertaining Reveal

For Queenslander’s, entertaining outdoors is somewhat of a daily ritual, especially once summer comes around. An outdoor entertaining space isn’t just about preparing and eating food, it offers an essential part of our lifestyle. A place to slow down and enjoy long family meals, or entertain friends with a drink.

When we designed the outdoor entertaining space at Palma Soleada we knew we wanted to be able to entertain the masses. We needed a big built in BBQ, huge fridge, sink, and plenty of room to host dinner parties. The outdoor entertaining space is attached to our pool house, which is a separate dwelling to the main home. It feels like a destination in itself, yet compliments the main house perfectly.

We chose the same travertine floor tiles that were used for around the pool. These same tiles flow all along the edge of the main house. A feature timber fan adorns the ceiling, where we plan to add heaters ready for next winter. We chose to add a rug to the space. Not only does it look amazing but it protects the travertine tiles as well. It is a hard wearing outdoor rug from Rugs For Good.

For the built in bench top we settled on poured concrete with flecks of stone hand seeded into it. Ryan chose a light grey concrete and both black and white stones. He completed the bench top and cabinetry installation himself with the help of friends. We think it looks stunning and will be very hard wearing. The tiles are a green subway in a row of five. We chose to use a grey grout as it works in perfectly with the grey concrete bench top. Our kitchen spout is a beautiful brushed brass from Yabby, it has a pull out nozzle which makes dong the dishes a lot easier.

The artwork from Aurora Art brings the tones of the whole outdoor space together perfectly. It was delivered in a roll and I had it framed locally in Kawana. This has been an incredibly popular piece on my Instagram account. As with our artwork the pots from Mowgli really play on the colours in the space. They are hand painted in Australia. The textiles from Aztec House add a softness to the room and make it feel cozy. Pretty styling elements were added in from various stores but most White Beach Co and Pineapple Traders.

What we created here was a light and breezy space to enjoy all year round.

As with the rest of the house we worked with Katrina from  De Vere Design Co to bring our vision for this space to life.  She approved all of the details from our tile selection to the cutlery. I bounce any idea I have onto her and she tells me if it is a good one our not! Her attention to detail is meticulous and styling on point. Katrina not only chose all of the pieces for the space with me but she styled it to perfection on shoot day. Even setting the table and making it look like something out of a House and Garden magazine cover. Bravo Katrina we absolutely adore working with you!
