Why we can’t stop holidaying in a motorhome!
Our family have just returned from our second Motorhome adventure with Let’s Go Motorhomes. You may remember last year when we explored Stradbroke Island and Tellebudgera Creek with our hire van. You can read all about it here. Well, we loved or time with Let’s Go Motorhomes so much that we decided to do it again!
If me from five, or even two, years ago could see myself now, she would be having a big LOL, because a holiday like this just wasn’t on my radar. Then along came COVID and with it its travel restrictions, and we were forced to think outside of the box we had put ourselves into. Let me tell you I am so glad we chose to be open-minded and try a holiday we never expected we would love.
We LOVE it. Here’s why….
1. It is surprisingly easy to holiday in a smaller space.
2. Less room, means less things, which equals less fuss.
3. You can travel to multiple destinations, yet you only need to unpack once.
4. There is a right sized van to suit every situation.
5. Living and sleeping in a smaller space creates the perfect opportunity for family bonding.
6. Motorhomes are so easy to pack up and travel with convenience.
7. Your motorhome comes with everything you need, you only need to bring your clothes, but there is also enough space to bring everything you want!
8. Nothing beats trying new things!
9. The memories you create will last a lifetime. 9. Caravan parks are a great place for making friends!
10. We find that we spend more time outdoors rather than in a hotel room.
11. You see more by driving!
12. You can pick up your motorhome in one destinations ad drop it back to Let’s Go Motorhome in another. 13. You have the freedom of the open road and can go wherever you want, whenever you want.
About Let’s Go Motorhomes and the van:
Let’s Go Motorhomes have branches all over Australia to hire their vehicles from. With sizes ranging to suit two to up to six people. One of their Jayco 6 Berth Conquest Journey was ours for a whole week. We found it was spacious enough to fit six people without feeling on top of one another. Hiring it was easy, with the pick-up point being Brisbane, only a one-hour drive from our home on the Sunshine Coast. All that was needed to drive the motorhome was a standard car license and of course a sense of adventure!
Key features of our van:
– Leather upholstery
– Sink and microwave oven
– Large 2-door refrigerator/freezer
– 4 burner stove and grill
– 2 permanent double beds and a convertible dinette bed
– Shower and Toilet
– Air conditioning
– Colour TV with DVD player
– Awning
– Reversing camera
– Provision to add 2-bike rack
– Solar panel for charging house battery
You can do a walk through tour of the van here.
I found the Jayco six berth to be both functional and extremely comfortable. We all slept well, and I really enjoyed being in the same space 24/7, it was a bonding experience. As with our last trip we put the two older children (aged 4 and 6) up high above the driver’s seat, there is a net to make sure they are safe and don’t roll out. We put our baby (16 months old) in a travel cot where the dinette bed would normally go. My husband and I slept down the back of the motorhome, on a double bed, which was comfortable. There was a shower in the bathroom, which we used a lot more than last year, when we used the campsite facilities a lot. With the cot being in the dining space we were still able to keep the two car seats up, which made for less work when we wanted to hit the road. There is a large awning attached to the van which we used for eating and playing under. We would also sit out here when the baby would have her daytime nap. We ate out under the outdoor awning for every meal. I found preparing and cooking our food easy with the four burners on the cook top and oven in the van. We did also enjoy eating out a lot on this trip because of the destinations we chose. The cupboard space blew me away. Honestly there is so much space that we couldn’t even fill them.
Learning how to drive and operate the van was simple. Of course, we had done it last year, but the staff still provided us with a demonstration when we picked it up. There is also ‘Let’s Go Motorhomes App,’ with videos explaining absolutely every button and operational function of the motorhome. I couldn’t speak more highly of Let’s Go Motorhomes and our motor homing adventures. On both occasions that we have hired we have had the most fantastic experience. We hope to be back with them again in 2022… Perhaps in a different state next time!
Where we went
We decided to keep this trip local and opted for three nights at BIG 4 Sandstone Point Holiday Park, followed by three nights at Cotton Tree Holiday Park. Both locations were completely amazing and totally different.
Sandstone Point sits on the glistening shores of Pumicestone Passage and is what I can only describe as paradise for families. Think huge waterpark with multiple waterslides, big swimming pools, pool side cabanas, happy hour and incredible poolside snacks. There is also a games room, park, basketball court, tennis court, go karts and so much more! The facilities were spotless. We chose to eat out at the holiday parks restaurant, head next door to Sandstone Point Hotel and cook meals on the camp BBQs around the caravan park. All in all, it was a perfect location for the start of our family holiday, and I highly recommend a visit.
Cotton Tree Holiday Park is only 20 minutes from our home and is in one of our favourite areas of the Sunshine Coast. We opted for a short staycation here so we could enjoy this place which we love so much. The Cotton Tree Holiday Park sits right on the water’s edge at the Maroochy River Mouth, and we were lucky enough to get one of the closest campsites to the water. There is so much to do in the local area that you can walk to. From shops and cafes, to stand up paddle boarding and swimming pools. There is every sort of restaurant you could desire. Our favourites are The Boat Shed, Prickly Pignata and fish and chip which is also from The Boat Shed. The facilities at the holiday park were spotlessly clean. I adored this spot for its quiet, calm and relaxed vibe. I know people who book their spot at Cotton Tree Holiday Park year after year, and it is no surprise why!
Well, I hope I have enticed you to enjoy your own Let’s Go Motorhome adventure.
