Ensuite and Outdoor Shower Reveal

A few months ago we began to put our ensuite reveal together. We wanted it to be perfect so it’s taken a lot of time and love. If you follow us on Instagram, you will have seen snippets of our progress along the way and now I am delighted to reveal the completed space.

Our ensuite bathroom has always been a big feature of the home, with it’s extra high ceilings, feature glass window, and outdoor shower, all leaving a big impression on anyone who sees it. Ryan and I think of an ensuite as an adults retreat, a highly personal space to relax in and unwind. However we are realistic and also know that little people love to join us in the shower, and have a soak in our bath tub. During the design process there were a few non negotiable items which had to be included an outdoor shower that could be accessed by both the ensuite and the pool (perfect for children), double shower head, double vanity, high ceilings and lots of light. A non negotiable for me was a purpose built ‘beauty bench’ which would only be for me, (but of course Chloe now thinks it’s for her!)

A note from Katrina…
The Ensuite is the epitome of a multi purpose room in the home of a busy family. Just like my family, I know that Natalie and Ryan share the Ensuite with the kids. It’s where everyone heads when getting out of the pool, it’s a shower that is large enough to get the whole family done, it’s splashing in the bath. The Ensuite was incredibly well designed for this home and really nails a well executed layout, so for me my job was very easy as this space had really lovely selections in place already, with the tap ware and the tiles.

My goal was to add detail enough to feel like a sanctuary when Ryan and Natalie could steal a moment to themselves, yet practical for every day family life. I began with towels in a pink, to tie to the rest of the home but broken by a simple thin stripe. From there a solid timber stool from Uniqwa Collections to ground the space, then adding in raw earthy materials like living plants which featured high on top of the mirrored vanity cupboards.  Styling accents such as candles, diffusers and bath products add a luxurious day spa like feel.

For Natalie’s make up station, we use a plush blush velvet stool and married this to the arch powder pink mirror we selected for over the make up station. A combination of décor and practical items are used on the bench to personalize the space just for Natalie.

The outdoor shower is a stunning space, with the use of the most divine floor and wall tiles from Sunshine Living Tile and Stone. A bold choice of colour and texture was chosen for the floor, and then the wal,l whilst all white, draws you in with its stunningly intricate detailing. The perfect combination for a space that is both playful and stunningly beautiful at the same time.

More on Sunshine Living Tile and Stone…
Sunshine Living Tile and Stone are located in Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast. Owned and operated by Ben and Crystal, an incredible husband and wife team, who pride themselves in offering unique and on-trend ranges which you wont find anywhere else locally. The selections truly are exquisite. They need to be seen, and touched to be truly appreciated. We knew that they would be the perfect store to supply the tiles for our outdoor shower. We needed to find tiles created in exceptional quality, something a bit different, and definitely eye catching. The team went above and beyond to help find the perfect tiles that ticked off all of our needs. I spent time in store looking at all the options and laying them out in different patterns, under their guidance. They suggested the perfect combination and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Pots and Plants
Our inspiration for the pots came from a visit to the Calile hotel in Brisbane. We vacationed there in February and really liked the arrangement of plants throughout their landscaping. Above the bathroom vanity we have five pots that were existing in our home and painted them white. They are filled with succulents and cacti. Next to the outdoor shower we planted a row of lilly pillys to create a hedge for privacy.

Beauty Bench
The beauty bench was built into the design of the bathrooms, as we had always planned to have one. We have done this for our past three house builds, and found them to be a stand out feature for resale. Our cabinet maker built the floating bench into the area.

Outdoor Shower
Now that it is complete, the outdoor shower is one of my favourite spaces of our home. The tile choices from Sunshine Tile and Stone worked perfectly, and added so much style and sophistication to the area. I am in love with them. The white cane chair was existing in our home, it used to be black and sit in Ari’s bedroom.

Bath
When we built the house we kept going back and forth about whether we wanted a built in or free standing bath. Having had both in the past we opted for built in, not only for the chic look but practicality too. We decided to run the floor tile up the bath for a seamless feel.

Separate Toilet
We are big believers in separate toilets in an ensuite. They offer privacy, and mean that the main part of the bathroom can still be used by one person if the other is on the loo! We decided to stay away from a boring toilet by adding some removable wallpaper to the space from Luxe Walls.

Vanity
We went for a double wall vanities and mirrored cabinets, with so much storage space behind them. We actually did the same vanity design in a house in Buderim a few years ago, and loved it so much that we decided to follow the same style.

Shower
We wanted an open shower to give off a feeling of space. The high ceilings weren’t enough for us, so we decided to leave the shower completely open. We wanted double shower heads on the ceiling, but also a hand held on the wall. The bets of both worlds.
