Our Palm Springs pool reveal has been a long time in the making. We were meticulous in the design, and wanted this space to be absolutely perfect. I am so excited to be bringing it to you. The whole design of our home was centered around our swimming pool, you can see it from the moment you walk into the house and from every room within it. The pools creates a visual oasis of glimmering water in the daytime and lights up our evenings with it’s shining blue pool light at night.

It took quite a while for us to decide what we wanted to do here and after much deliberation we settled on three built in cabanas along the back, which Ryan built himself. As well as additional relaxation zones around the pool. The idea with the cabanas was that they would almost look like they were floating. The breeze blocks were added to screen off the back garden and the shed, whilst also adding that Palm Springs touch in, and the white timber cladding on ceiling finished off the look perfectly. The pool gets sun all day which means we can even have a slightly chilly dip in winter. We needed a large umbrella to shade the children in summer. The travertine tiles look absolutely stunning next to the bright blue pool pebble. There are multiple places to lounge, relax and just enjoy life, and I must admit that looking out onto this space everyday has certainly encouraged me to slowdown a little. The three foxtail Palms, catci, succulents and various crisp white pots add green to the space. The pool area certainly has the resort life vibe that we were dreaming of.

As with the rest of the house we worked with Katrina from  De Vere Design Co to bring our vision to life. I looked to a lot of luxurious Brisbane hotels and residential apartment spaces for inspiration to send to her. She took our vision and helped turn it into our real life. I am so happy with the way our pool area has come together and can’t wait for summer 2021 now that it is finished.

A note from Katrina…
When Natalie and Ryan said they wanted their pool to really play of the Palm Springs vibe of their house, it was a full bodied yes from me! This spaces oozes easy breezy, luxury, resort living! We chose to have some serious fun with colour here, and the huge space that we had to work with meant we could. Not only the space, but the abundance of sunshine and natural surrounds means the whole area carried colour really well. The pool area was the perfect canvas, with Ryan having created the most wonderful gardens surrounding it. He also built three large double cabana beds, to mimic a high end resort feel. We played with bold yellow as our main feature colour against a soft sand tone and accented with bright blue. We layered the cushions with extra large sizing down to standard cushion sizing, allowing for complete relaxation and rest. We also paired two sets of yellow stripped towels at each cabana. The existing outdoor couch was revitalised with fresh powder coating in white, and was recovered to match the cabana bed fabric. All of which was accented with cushions to tie in with the cabanas. This is the perfect location for lazing long chats , cocktails and nibbles. We grounded the space with the use of the rattan sun loungers, these are a great piece that are easily transportable, meaning that you can move them around the pool area to suit the weather and location of the kids in the pool. This space was a pleasure to work on and I know that the family will enjoy endless hours of fun with their friends and family around the pool.

Theralux Mineral Pool System
We put a lot of thought and research into type of pool we wanted in our home and settled on Theralux. In short we chose a mineral pool. Theralux, is an ingenious pool system designed to reduce pool maintenance time, lessen the cost of monthly pool maintenance and produce healthy mineral-rich, toxin free water! I wrote a blog How we turned our pool into a wellness retreat! which contains all of the details of the benefits of having a Theralux pool. Almost two years on and we are so happy with our decision, and highly recommend it. The children can swim in the pool all day without getting sore eyes or itchy skin. You can feel how clean the water is, and your hair and skin actually feel nicer once you leave it.

The Cabanas
As I mentioned above Ryan built all three cabanas to give the pool space a luxury, resort style feel. They were designed to almost look like they are floating. We added the breeze blocks last minute and I love the look, they also offer a gorgeous backdrop to the whole pool space. Ryan chose a white timber clad ceiling which finish off the cabanas beautifully. The cabana base cushions and scatter cushions were made by A Cover Story Upholstery and I have put all of the fabric details below.
3beaches – Duck Stripe Citrine
3beaches – Daintree Palm Aquamarine
3 Beaches – Bar Stripe Aquamarine
Warwick – Mallacoota Sunshine
Warwick – Lomani Cloud
Towels – Ebay you can google ‘Orange striped beach towels’ and a lot of well priced options come up.

Cluster pots
We have a little obsession with The Balcony Garden pots, in particular the JITT. Two take pride of place at out front door. For the pool area we created a cluster of three at two ends of the space, filled with cacti and succulents. I love this splash of green to the space.
Balcony Garden – Willow Lightweight Range JITT in white – sizes 2 x 380mm, 2 x 500mm, 2 x 650mm

Feature Pots
If you have read my room reveals before you will know that Mowgli Studios pots can be found all over our home. They have a beautiful range of hand painted pots for both indoors and outdoors.

Pool Umbrella
Our pool gets all day sun which is amazing, but with three young children it was so important that we have some shade over the area. We chose a large umbrella mounted into the tiles and placed it close to the pool step where the children like to play. The umbrella is from Cosh Living and is incredible quality. You can spin it around and angle the fabric of the umbrella in lots of different ways to provide shade in many different areas of the pool. It is one of the best purchases we have made in awhile we use it every time we go for a swim.

Sun Loungers
Our sun loungers were existing to the space and just needed to be styled to match in with the rest of the pool area. Most of the little trinkets were purchased from Hello Trader. The towel is from The Beach People.

Outdoor Couch
The outdoor couch was existing but needed a lot of love. We had it powder coated in white, as it used to be dark grey. The cushions were made by A Cover Story Upholstery in Cloud fabric from Warwick called Lomani Cloud. This is a great spot to enjoy some Mr Consistent and Volando Tequila.

Rattan Loungers
This little space in the pool area has such a great vibe to it. The umbrella is our beach umbrella which I bought from Citizens of the Sun who I believe are no longer operating (sorry!) The rattan loungers are from Wild n Bloom.
