A Serene Stopover in Port Stephens: Our Stay at Oaks Pacific Blue

As our family embarked on an exciting road trip from the Sunshine Coast to the snow-covered peaks of New South Wales, we knew we wanted to break up the journey with a memorable stopover. Port Stephens, with its pristine beaches and tranquil atmosphere, was the perfect choice. Not only did it offer a relaxing respite from the long drive, but it also provided us with an opportunity to explore a beautiful part of Australia we hadn’t yet experienced.

The Journey to Port Stephens

The drive from the Sunshine Coast to Port Stephens was an adventure. With each passing kilometre, we watched the landscape transform, moving from the subtropical coastline of Queensland into the more temperate regions of New South Wales. We stopped for lunch at the iconic Big Banana in Coffs Harbour. The kids were kept busy with car games, snacks, and the anticipation of the snow ahead, while Ryan and I enjoyed the scenic views and occasional roadside stops to stretch our legs.

Our Stay at Oaks Pacific Blue Resort

Upon arriving in Port Stephens, we checked into the Oaks Pacific Blue Resort, which immediately impressed us with its stunning lagoon-style pool that wraps around the entire property. This accommodation perfectly blended luxury and family-friendly comfort, offering a well-deserved break from our travels.

Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with modern amenities that made our stay incredibly comfortable. The kids were thrilled to discover our own private plunge pool in our three bedroom villa, and we spent a lot of time splashing around and soaking up the sun. The resort’s location was also ideal, providing easy access to the local beaches and attractions.

Exploring Port Stephens

During our stay, we took a leisurely drive through Salamander BayNelson BayShoal Bay, and Fingal Bay, taking in the scenic beauty of each location. We particularly enjoyed a refreshing swim at Fingal Bay, followed by some relaxing downtime back at the resort. The hotel activities kept us entertained, with swimming in the lagoon pool and playing tennis being the highlights.

For dining, we had a fantastic experience at the Shoal Bay Country Club, where we savoured delicious meals with stunning views of the bay. We also enjoyed a casual family dinner at Gianni’s Pizza and Ice Cream, where the kids indulged in some tasty treats. We also couldn’t resist stopping by The Lolly Bug for some sweets. Back at the resort, we dined at the Laguna Blu Bar and Dining, where the ambiance and food made for a perfect evening.

The Road to the Snow

After our relaxing stay in Port Stephens, we continued our journey toward the snow. The change in scenery as we travelled further south was remarkable, with the coastal landscape giving way to rolling hills and, eventually, the snowy mountains of New South Wales. The kids were beside themselves with excitement as we approached the snowfields, and we spent several days skiing, snowboarding, and enjoying all the winter activities we could fit in.

Returning Home

On our return trip, we made the smart choice to stop once again in Port Stephens. This time, we spent more time exploring the local area and taking in the beautiful surroundings. The peaceful atmosphere of Oaks Pacific Blue Resort was the perfect contrast to the lively snowfields, and it gave us the chance to unwind before the final leg of our journey back to the Sunshine Coast.

Final Thoughts

Our holiday to Port Stephens was more than just a stopover; it became one of the highlights of our road trip. The combination of the luxurious Oaks Pacific Blue Resort and the natural beauty of the region made it a destination we’ll be sure to return to. Whether you’re planning a long road trip or just looking for a beautiful place to relax, Port Stephens should definitely be on your list.
