Recently, my family embarked on an exciting trip to Tasmania, specifically to the charming city of Launceston. With my parents and three young children in tow, aged 8, 7, and 3, we set out for three nights of adventure, exploration, and family fun.
Day One: Arriving in Launceston
After touching down in Launceston, we wasted no time immersing ourselves in the local culture. We hired a car from Enterprise Car Rentals at their booth near baggage claim a Launceston Airport. Our first stop was dinner at the renowned restaurant, Cataract on Paterson. Nestled in the heart of the city, Cataract on Paterson offered us a delightful dining experience with its cozy ambiance and delectable menu. From fresh seafood to locally sourced produce, every dish was a culinary delight that satisfied both the adults and the little ones.
Day Two: Exploring Launceston
Our second day in Launceston began with an early morning run around the local area near our accommodation. My son and I stumbled upon a beautiful reserve with a serene duck pond, adding a touch of nature to our morning exercise.
Afterwards, we drove into town to the harbor and embarked on a boat tour with Tamar River Cruises, exploring the stunning Cataract Gorge from the water. The cruise offered breathtaking views of the rugged cliffs and lush surroundings. Following the cruise, we took the children to Riverbend Park, where they enjoyed playing in the open spaces and playgrounds.
For lunch, we dined at Rupert and Hound, savouring delicious meals that satisfied our appetites before continuing our adventures. Next visited the charming Penny Royal Adventures, where we embarked on an array of exciting activities. From cliff jumping and cliff walking to ziplinning and gold panning, there was no shortage of excitement for the whole family. Last we visited the City Gardens to stroll around and see the Japanese macaques.
We concluded the day with pizza and a movie back at our accommodation, enjoying some quality family time after a day filled with exploration.
Day Three: Wildlife Encounters and Cave Explorations
On our third day, we packed up and left our accommodation, heading to the Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary where we encountered Tasmanian devils, wombats, and kangaroos up close. It was an educational and memorable experience for the whole family.
Next, we drove just 15 minutes down the road to Mole Creek Karst National Park for an incredible cave tour, exploring the fascinating underground world of limestone caves.
After our adventures, we indulged in a delicious lunch at the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe, enjoying fresh local produce and homemade treats.
Finally, we checked into our beautiful new accommodation Naivasha Escapes in Reedy Marsh for a relaxing afternoon. We unwound with a platter and wine for dinner, enjoying the tranquillity of the countryside.
Day Four: Relaxed Farewell
Our final morning in Tasmania was spent relaxing at the beautiful house we stayed in, soaking in the serene surroundings and reflecting on the wonderful memories we had made during our trip. On our way to the airport we made a very quick stop to the wonderful Frank and Lotti’s for treats!
